As the Awakening Ceremony drew to a close, City Lord Zhao Long approached Li Huo, the head of the Li family. The City Lord’s presence commanded respect, and his eyes shone with genuine admiration as he greeted Li Huo.
"Patriarch Li," Zhao Long began, his tone courteous, "your family has produced remarkable talents this year. I extend my congratulations."
Li Huo inclined his head slightly, a gesture of acknowledgment. "Thank you, City Lord. It is indeed a momentous day for us."
Zhao Long smiled, then leaned in slightly, lowering his voice to a more conversational tone. "I also wanted to speak with you about the upcoming Three Cities Tournament. As you know, it happens annually and is scheduled for one month from now."
Li Huo's interest piqued, and he nodded for Zhao Long to continue.
"This tournament," Zhao Long explained, "is a significant event for our region. The cities of Jinling, Tianying, and Fengluo each send their newly awakened to compete. The results determine the distribution of the spirit stone mine located equidistant from our three cities."
At the mention of spirit stones, Li Chen's attention sharpened. Zhao Long noticed and elaborated for the benefit of the younger participants. "Spirit stones are formed by the accumulation of cosmic energy in nature. They are invaluable to bloodline awakeners for cultivating their abilities and replenishing energy during battles. They also serve as a primary currency across the Desolate Continent."
Li Chen and the others absorbed this information, realizing the tournament's stakes were higher than personal glory; it directly influenced their city's resources.
Zhao Long turned to the gathered youth, his gaze settling on Li Chen. "This year's awakenings have been the most promising we've seen in recent years. I have high hopes for each of you in the upcoming tournament. Make our city proud."
With the City Lord’s words hanging in the air, the scene gradually shifted. The Li family and other participants began to leave the hall, heading back to their respective homes. Li Chen noticed Patriarch Wang Jian’s lingering gaze, filled with a mix of malice and intent, before the Wang family departed.
The journey back to the Li estate was filled with quiet reflections. Upon their arrival, Li Chen followed his father to the courtyard, where his mother, Wei Lin, awaited them. Her expression revealed she had already heard about his remarkable awakening.
In the privacy of their room, Li Chen observed a mix of pride and hesitation on his parents' faces. Puzzled, he finally asked, "What's wrong? You both seem concerned."
Wei Lin took a deep breath before speaking, her voice tinged with unease. "Li Chen, there is something important you need to know about my background."
Surprised, Li Chen listened intently as his mother continued, "I belong to the Wei family, a powerful clan in the central part of the Desolate Continent. During one of my adventures, I accidentally activated an ancient teleportation portal and found myself near Jinling City, injured and alone. Your father found me and took care of me."
She paused, her eyes reflecting past struggles. "I've tried many times to contact my family using communication talismans, but the vast distance makes it impossible."
Li Chen was taken aback, processing this revelation about his mother's origins. Seeing his speechless reaction, Wei Lin continued, "The Wei family bloodline is inherited from a very overbearing 'Holy Demon' bloodline. It is said to surpass even Heaven Grade. Children with Wei family blood usually awaken offshoots of this powerful bloodline."
She explained further, "This bloodline strengthens the body immensely. It’s said that those who cultivate it can even destroy mountains with their bare hands. So, your father and I were surprised when you awakened a Special bloodline instead."
Li Chen finally understood the source of his formidable first bloodline. After a moment of contemplation, he decided to reveal his own secret. "Mother, Father, there's something I need to tell you about my awakening and the dream I had last night."
He began to narrate the dream from the last night, carefully describing the visions. "In my dream, I saw a great tree, ancient and immense, its top disappearing into the clouds. A woman consumed a fruit from this tree, gaining immense power and becoming a ruler. She had two sons who inherited her power, and when she became too powerful and dangerous, they sealed her away."
Li Chen paused before continuing. "I saw two fruits on the tree. One of them fell and became a seed, which seemed to merge with me."
Then he took a deep breath and added, "During the awakening, I felt two distinct powers. One was the bloodline you've described, but there was another, even more powerful one. I believe I experienced a twin awakening."
His parents were visibly shocked but also elated. Li Huo's eyes widened in disbelief while Wei Lin covered her mouth with her hand, her eyes shimmering with a mixture of astonishment and pride.
"A twin awakening," Li Huo murmured, his voice filled with awe. "That's... incredible. It’s a rarity beyond belief."
Wei Lin's expression shifted from shock to a gentle, proud smile. "Li Chen, do you realize what this means? Your potential is far greater than we ever imagined. The combination of two powerful bloodlines could make you one of the strongest cultivators in the Desolate Continent."
Li Chen could see the pride in their eyes, but there was also a hint of worry. Wei Lin took his hand, her grip firm but comforting. "Li Chen, you must keep this to yourself until you are strong enough to protect your secret. The Desolate Continent is filled with mysterious groups that target those with high-grade bloodlines for various reasons."
Li Huo nodded in agreement. "This also explains why your dream seemed so vivid and connected to your awakening. Dreams like that often hold deeper meanings, and it could be a sign of your future potential."
Wei Lin added, "We need to understand more about this second bloodline. It’s unusual and might be the key to unlocking even greater power within you."
Li Chen nodded, absorbing their words. His parents' reactions showed both pride and concern for his safety, knowing the dangers he might face due to his unique abilities.
"Tomorrow, you should visit the family library to test your attributes and choose a suitable cultivation technique," Li Huo continued.
Li Chen listened intently as his father explained further, "Cultivators must choose techniques that align with their attributes to maximize their power. Using techniques with conflicting attributes can be counterproductive and dangerous."
As the conversation ended, Li Huo and Wei Lin left Li Chen's courtyard, leaving him with much to ponder. Standing alone, he felt a mix of pride, determination, and an unyielding resolve to uncover the full potential of his dual heritage. His journey was only just beginning.
