The gentle rustling of the morning breeze stirred the curtains as golden rays filtered into Li Chen’s chamber. He sat cross-legged on a meditation mat, the events of the past few days playing in his mind like echoes of a distant storm. Before him lay two scrolls, each holding the keys to a new path.
One was wrapped in crimson silk that shimmered faintly with a residual heat: the ThunderFire Refining Technique.
The other, tied with subdued gray ribbon, bore no grand markings but radiated a quiet, dense pressure. It was from his mother, a legacy of her clan.
Li Chen inhaled deeply, calming his racing heart. Anticipation clouds focus, he reminded himself. He exhaled slowly and allowed a serene quiet to settle over his thoughts.
Then, with reverence, he untied the crimson scroll.
The ThunderFire Refining Technique revealed itself in fiery characters that shimmered and danced like living sparks. The opening lines were etched in poetic form, meant to be chanted during early meditation:
“When flame and lightning dance as one,
Heaven’s fury and sun's breath spun.
Breathe deep, let wrath and light entwine...
Forge the self through storm and spine.”
Li Chen recited the verse aloud, feeling a subtle resonance stir within him. The scroll explained that cultivation could not begin with brute force alone. One must first sense the elements in the world, Fire and Thunder, in his case, and then draw them into the body.
This early phase was not about power. It was about harmony. A cultivator had to attune their spirit to the natural world, allowing elemental energy to trickle into the body through controlled breathing and inner stillness.
Only after building this foundational resonance could one enter the Body Tempering Stage, the bedrock of all cultivation.
The scroll broke it down with elegant clarity:
Level 1: Skin Tempering, for resilience against minor harm and harsh conditions.
Levels 2 to 3: Muscle Tempering, to enhance strength and speed.
Levels 4 to 5: Bone Tempering, making the skeleton a structure of reinforced power.
Levels 6 to 7: Organ Tempering, improving internal function and fortitude.
Levels 8 to 9: Blood Tempering, where the very essence of life thickens into a mercury-like vitality, becoming a conduit for cosmic energy.
At the ninth level, Li Chen read, the body is reborn. Blood flows heavy, dense with power, and the cultivator becomes a vessel worthy of true Qi.
He rolled the scroll back with care, feeling awe rise within him. Then he turned to the second scroll, gifted by his mother.
Unraveling the ribbon, he paused for a moment, not out of curiosity, but out of respect. This was more than technique; it was legacy, survival, and trust woven into silk.
The title revealed itself:
“Primordial Body Scripture, Volume I: The Path of the Flesh.”
The tone of the script was heavier, and the language more ancient. Yet every line carried weight.
Unlike Qi cultivation, which refined internal energy, body cultivation refined the body itself: flesh, muscle, bones, and blood. Those with bloodlines inclined toward physical strength, like his mother’s Holy Demon heritage, could follow this grueling yet rewarding path.
The advantages were significant. Body cultivators had strength independent of Qi. Even when drained of spiritual energy, their bodies could carry on, battle-ready and formidable. Their presence in combat was often described as monstrous, unyielding and brutal.
But such power came at a price.
The scripture detailed the harrowing pain one endured at every stage. Muscles shredded and reformed. Bones cracked and healed stronger. Blood boiled under the pressure of transformation. And the ingredients required were costly, often sourced from rare herbs or powerful beasts.
The stages of body refinement followed a structured path:
Stone Body: Solid, foundational.
Bronze Body: Denser, more flexible and resilient.
Silver Body: Resistant to elemental forces and physical trauma.
Gold Body: The peak described in this volume; combining power with durability beyond most martial cultivators.
Each was further divided into Initial, Partial, and Complete stages. The scripture hinted that more advanced forms existed, perhaps Platinum or Jade, but such knowledge was absent here.
As Li Chen neared the end, he realized something: the scroll ended precisely at the threshold of the Gold Body stage. He turned the final page only to find a blank, marked with a single note in his mother’s handwriting:
DEAR Li Chen, Too much power too soon becomes a burden. You must earn the right to know what lies beyond. Mother
He smiled faintly, touched by her thoughtfulness. She had not withheld knowledge out of distrust, but out of wisdom. A seed planted too deep may never grow.
The scripture advised not to begin body cultivation before reaching the third level of Body Tempering. The human body at lower levels simply lacked the resilience to endure the pain and stress of physical refinement. Attempting it prematurely could cripple, or worse.
To cultivate Stone Body: Initial Stage, one needed:
A Blood Fruit: a rare herb that replenishes vitality and accelerates recovery.
Five types of low-tier 1st-level beast blood, aligned with the cultivator’s attributes.
In his case, that meant beasts aligned to Fire and Thunder.
The text elaborated on beast classifications, connecting them directly to the stages of human cultivation:
1st-level beasts: aligned with Body Tempering Stage, divided into:
Low-tier (Lv. 1 to 2): suitable for beginners.
Mid-tier (Lv. 3 to 7): significantly more dangerous.
Peak-tier (Lv. 8 to 9): often required full squads to subdue.
2nd-level beasts: equivalent to Qi Condensation Stage cultivators.
3rd-level beasts: equal to Foundation Establishment Stage.
And so on, each level representing a massive leap in strength and intelligence.
Li Chen leaned back slowly. The path ahead demanded not only effort and time, but resources, courage, and careful planning. He would need to track and hunt multiple elemental beasts, procure a rare Blood Fruit, and endure physical agony the average cultivator would never face.
But he wasn’t deterred.
He was born with a rare legacy, and now stood at the threshold of a rare path. The flames of purpose flickered within him.
Tomorrow, he would begin sensing the fire and thunder in the world around him.
And when the time came, he would forge both Qi and body into something unstoppable.
